Ballet

Ages 4 – Adult

Ballet is the foundation for all other forms of dance. Age-appropriate techniques are used to teach both ballet terminology as well as proper technique.

Benefits of Ballet:

  • Emphasizes proper posture and alignment which improves balance and coordination.
  • Engages muscles throughout the body building lean muscle mass which leads to better overall strength.
  • Incorporates stretching exercises that lead to better flexibility and increased range of motion.
  • Instills discipline, focus, and concentration to improve and refine technique.
  • Teaches valuable life skills such as perseverance, resilience, and teamwork.

What to Wear:

Shoes:

  • Pre-Level 2: leather ballet shoes (Female dancers should wear pink shoes. Male dancers should wear black shoes.)
  • Levels 3-Adult: leather, split-sole ballet shoes (Female dancers should wear pink shoes; male dancers should wear black shoes.)
  • Pointe: pointe shoes must be fitted by a professional and are only allowed to be worn by dancers who have received instructor permission.

Clothing: Female dancers should wear tights and a leotard. Younger dancers (Creative Movement, Pre Level, and Level 1) may wear a tutu dress with an attached skirt. Garments that detach from the leotard become a distraction and may not be worn during class. Older dancers (Level 2 and up) may wear ballet skirts over leotards and tights at the instructor’s discretion. Leg warmers, ballet sweaters, and long sleeved leotards are recommended for cooler weather. Male dancers should wear form fitted pants and/or shorts with a form fitted shirt or tank.
